What is the Uncle Billy’s Day Festival?
The annual Uncle Billy’s Day festival is an old tradition celebrating the entrepreneurism that makes Altavista a great place to live and do business. Billy Lane, whose family founded the town, would come into Altavista on Saturdays to peddle his goods. The Uncle Billy’s Day Festival is a weekend when old friends reunite and new friends are made! We will have plenty of great music and good food. The carnival will be in town. Local crafters and artisans, as well as, antique car enthusiasts will be showcasing their treasures. There is something for everyone at the Uncle Billy’s Day Festival!
What time does it start?
The park will open Friday at 4pm and close at 11pm. Saturday the park will be open from 9am – 11pm. Fireworks will take place at approximately 9:20pm.
How much is admission to the festival?
Admission to the festival is FREE!
Where can I park?
There is free public parking in English Park, at Altavista Combined School and just off Broad Street behind the Portrait Place at the Foot Bridge across the railroad. The Town of Altavista community bus will run all day Saturday from the parking areas to the park. There is NO CHARGE to ride. Handicapped parking is available in English Park. You must have placard to enter the lot. Please see our schedule of events for parking locations.
What should I wear?
We ask that you keep in mind this is a family festival. Shirts are required at all times. Please wear comfortable shoes for walking, and bring plenty of sunscreen!
Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately, due to health and safety concerns, dogs are not allowed in the festival.
What items are NOT allowed in the park?
Coolers, backpacks, skateboards, bikes, and dogs are not allowed in the festival.
Is the Uncle Billy’s Day Festival wheelchair or stroller accessible?
There is a paved road that runs from the entrance to the park through the food court. This area is easily accessible by wheelchair/stroller. The other activities are in grass fields and while accessible, may prove a challenge at times. How many people attend the festival?
While there is no official attendance kept, it is estimated that approximately 20,000 people will visit. Attendance is dependent on the weather.
What if it rains?
The festival is a rain or shine event. Our vendors will brave the elements to bring you all things “Uncle Billy”. In the event of severe, inclement weather, bands may be canceled.

Where are the restrooms?
As you enter the festival, you will see a large trailer that houses restrooms. There are also porta potties located throughout the festival. Please help us keep these facilities nice for everyone to enjoy!
What do I need to bring?
Sunscreen, hat, comfortable shoes, lawn chair (if you want to sit and enjoy the bands), cash (for any items you may wish to purchase), proper id (if you intend to enjoy a beverage in the Beer Garden) & family and friends!
